Understanding Your Insurance

Not all office visits are covered by your insurance policy so it's important to be familiar with your coverage. You will most likely be responsible for charges such as deductibles, co-insurance, maximum out of pocket, and copays. If you are unsure about the details of your policy, please contact your insurance company prior to scheduling an appointment.

We have provided a few definitions to make things a bit easier to understand

Deductible

This is the amount that you pay, out of pocket, before your insurance will start to pay for any medical expenses.

Copay

This is the amount towards your bill, that your insurance company requires you to pay. This is in addition to their portion of the bill to be paid. If you have a copay for office visits, that payment is due at the time of your visit. For some well woman visits a copay may not be required. Please check with your insurance company. We will also verify this information for you.

Co-insurance

This is the rate at which you and your insurance company split medical expenses after you have met your deductible.

Maximum out of pocket

This is the most that you would have to pay for medical expenses, after which your insurance company will pay the remainder of your bills, in full.

Well Woman Visits

Please click here for a full explanation of a Well Woman Visit. Briefly, a well woman visit is designed to give a woman a once a year opportunity for basic gyn medical care. It will cover a pap smear, birth control, and a referral for a mammogram. In some cases a well woman visit will not require a copay by your insurance company. If a well woman visit is scheduled, and it turns into a sick visit, the proper copay, as required by your insurance company, will apply.
